School Holiday Mayhem Begins

At least it is only for a week and a half. They finished yesterday for Easter and then ANZAC day returning to school on Wednesday 26th.

The week included a Hip Hop performance put on by the Senior school classes for the parents and the rest of the school Both Samuel and Rebecca's class did really well. Matthew's year two class hosted the final assembly for the term and performed a little easter song. It was really good.

I have spent the last couple of evenings dicking around with the computer playing with little snippets of movies that I took on the camera. We really should get a digital video camera as we don't even bother with the film one anymore. we tend to take photos and small movies on the camera, which is fine except when you are trying to get two hip hop performances to on film and you only have a total of 3 minutes you can film! Fortunately it worked out and I managed to put both files together to make one small movie.

My computer is getting pretty full so I have to clear some of my photos and my business stuff off. I think that might be a job for tomorrow. I have put all the home movies (made on the camera) onto DVD and that is just finishing off now. Trying to keep all this digital filing up to date is almost a full time job!

So yes, I have been mucking about "playing" and not actually doing the paid work that I should be doing. Once a procrastinator, always a procrastinator!

Civil Union Photo

Thought I'd put in a photo of the kids at the civil union. This is when they brought the rings up after everyone present had blessed the rings.

It's Been a While

It has been ages since I updated. I have been so busy with family life, teaching and studying. I am currently undertaking a research project for my diploma and it is a new challenge that I must say I am enjoying (most of the time).

The kids are busy doing their thing - after school activities (they are allowed 2 each) seem to keep us running around like headless chickens. We have just got through the madness that is the beginning of the year. The girlchild is doing piano and dance/drama, the boy is doing piano and cubs and the baby boy is doing keas, but wants to start gymnastics next term. They have all been having swimming lessons. Our afternoons seem to be organised chaos and lots of taxiing kids around. They older two have just been on school camp and the boy went on his first cub camp with my DH. I have never seen DH so exhausted as when he returned from that 2 nights away - he came back so shattered he went to bed at about 8pm!

We had the priviledge of attending our first ever Civil Union to witness the marriage of my uncle to his long term boyfriend. As you can imagine, one doesn't get to go to many gay weddings. It was a lovely evening. They had the ceremony with just family and close friends in their front yard. It was a lovely ceremony and everyone was in tears it was so beautiful. The kids were charged with the ring duty and they had to look after the rings which were on a triangular rainbow cushion. They took their duty very seriously and were just wonderful. I was so proud. A friend took the kids home after the service and then we went out to dinner with the newlyweds and the family. It was a really fun evening and the meal at Bowman's in Mt Eden was superb!

My big news is I have just turned 40 and had a fantastic birthday. DH and the boy and girlchild were away and it left just myself and the baby boy home for four days - one of which was my birthday. We had a nice week, and on my actual birthday I spent all day at the hospital as a birth companion for one of my clients who was overdue and was induced that day. It was a great birth, but very emotional and I came home shattered, but had nice birthday dinner with my baby, my parents and my uncles (who we call the Gruncles because they are my kids great-uncles).

My big party was on the Saturday and we hired a private room in a bar, a bus to transport the revellers and I loaded the ipod up with good tunes, took the coffee table to dance on and 40 of my closest friends and we partied hard till half past midnight when the bus came and brought us back home where some of us continued until the wee small hours. As my sister-in-law says, I was feeling seedier than the bottom of a birdcage on Sunday! But it was worth it, we had so much fun and it was everything I wanted my party to be. I even made a disco ball pinata which we did (it was filled with chocolate and some grown up stuff!).

I have been working out since January with a personal trainer twice a week. It has been hard work, but my fitness is improving. I have lost a couple of kilos, but still got lots to go, however I feel really good and I think I look much better.

Am busy working - still teaching classes, reviewing midwives and now working a few hours a week from home for friends. Sometimes I wonder if life would be easier if I just had one job. I'm sure it would, but it wouldn't be half as interesting! Because of the work and the study and my stress levels I decided that something had to go as I couldn't keep up my current activity levels, particularly as the kids needs have increased so much. After much deliberation I finally decided to give up some of my voluntary work, so I have after 9 years resigned from the Parents Centre committee and will just continue being a part of the antenatal subcommittee (a very easy role) and continue doing my lobbying thing for them as that is something that I really enjoy. So life has slowed down a bit after the first three crazy months.

Summer has passed and it is now changing to autum, however after a coolish March, April has so far been a mix of cool weather and humid weather. We have had lots of rain and equally lots of sunshine - no wonder everyone is getting colds! It definitely feels like summer has gone and we are now slowing down as the school holidays and Easter start next week. Two weeks to relax with the kids and then back into it again!

Well that's about all for now. I will try and be a bit more regular so that I don't have to type so much next time!
